Bookworm Life Worthy

These books have brightened up my September

Are you a bookworm like me? At times I read an incredible amount. From the schmaltziest belles-lettres books, to fantasy, biographies and non-fiction. With these short summaries, I would like to introduce you to some books. With these short summaries, I would like to introduce you to some books.

Jule Pieper – „Das Buch deines Lebens“

I was literally influenced via Instagram and ordered the book by Jule Pieper. Somehow I always have high expectations with such recommendations – here I was definitely not disappointed!

Aber irgendwie hat sie das Gefühl, in einem Hamsterrad gefangen zu sein. But somehow she has the feeling of being trapped in a hamster wheel. A job she’s not entirely happy with, a flatmate she’s actually friends with but it doesn’t fit anymore either, a relationship that isn’t really a relationship. Who is she? What does she want from her life? How can she change herself and her life for the better? By chance, Jule finds a manual on the internet and starts to work through it. Step by step, Jule takes the reader on her journey.

I faced this point myself and have already changed a lot since then. And I’m still at it. “Das Buch deines Lebens”* not only tells Jule’s story, but also invites you to embark on your own journey from the very beginning!

Kim Izzo – „The Jane Austen Marriage Manual“

“The Jane Austen Marriage Manual”* is an incredibly cheesy novel that gives a lot of hints of Jane Austen. Literally, because Katherine is a big Jane Austen fan and goes in search of Mr Rich, her hopeful Mr Right. Why do you ask yourself? Katherine is almost 40 and has just lost her job. Of course, this is not enough and so her (ex-)boyfriend has made off with Katherine’s savings, on top of which her grandmother dies. Far too much at once for one person and yet just the right hook for research for her new article: Does the “rich marriage” still exist in today’s age as it did in Jane Austen’s time?

This is one of the books that is on my list when I want to read something that is not highly complex. Often in such moments I choose books I already know, have read umpteen times and know they have a good ending. Kim Izzo’s “Mr. Darcy” is beautifully suited for such moments.

Joël Dicker – „Baltimore Boys“

With “Baltimore Boys”* I didn’t quite know what to expect. I received this book as a gift – and quite honestly, from the cover I wouldn’t have bought it myself. As old-fashioned as that looked – no, thanks.

In the end, however, I was very pleasantly surprised!

Marcus Goldmann and his two cousins Woody and Hillel were known as “The Goldmann Gang” or “Baltimore Boys”. For years, Marcus struggled with the fate that befell his family. His two cousins and he had big plans, but unfortunately life didn’t play along. Deceit and envy became bigger and bigger roles in her life until it was no longer possible. Marcus is struggling with his past and now has to face it. In “Baltimore Boys” he tells the story of Hillel, Woody and him with an incredible strength that carried me along very much.

Now that I know Dicker has already written the worldwide bestseller “The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair” – which, by the way, is the first part of the Goldmann series – it’s on my Goodreads reading list. From this you can already conclude that both parts can also be read alone.

Even though September didn’t add quite as many books to my reading list, I’m excited to see what October brings. So far it looks like a lot more!

Do you know any of the featured books? Which book did you read last?
